W. Crayton Walters III, President

Captain Walters joined the Charleston Branch Pilots’ Association in 1991 and is currently the President of the Association.  He is licensed by the State of South Carolina as a Full Branch Pilot for Charleston Harbor and Port Royal Sound and holds a United States Coast Guard License as a First-Class Pilot for Charleston and Port Royal. Beginning in 2016, he served as the Trustee and Vice President for the South Atlantic States, and is currently the Secretary-Treasurer of The American Pilots Association. Crayton graduated from The Citadel in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and started his career in corporate banking.

Crayton has also served on the Board of Trustees of Historic Charleston Foundation as past Chairman as well as The Propeller Club, Port of Charleston.  He is a former board member of Charleston Day School and of Charleston Collegiate School. He was an appointee of Governor Sanford’s to the Port Royal Pilot Commission and a past chairman.

Captain John E. Cameron, Executive Director

Serving as the Association’s liaison with regulating bodies, operating partners and the general public, Captain Cameron holds a unique understanding of government affairs and port safety and security regulations, and the ever-changing shipping industry.  He retired from the United States Coast Guard in 2007, as Captain of the Port and Sector Commander, Charleston.  In that role he led all Coast Guard operations throughout South Carolina and Georgia, including direction of search and rescue, marine environmental protection, port safety and security, and federal marine law enforcement.  Board seats include South Carolina Emergency Response Commission (Member, Executive Committee), American Salvage Association (Associate Member Chairman), President of the Charleston Propeller Club and member of the Senator Lindsey Graham Homeland Security Coalition.
